Kensington Volunteers to Help Homeless Chicagoans

Kensington Volunteers for Inspiration 2014In July 2014, Kensington’s employees volunteered to help feed some of Chicago’s homeless community at the Inspiration Café in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago.

The Inspiration Café at 4554 N Broadway in Chicago, provides a warm meal to the homeless and less-fortunate in a restaurant setting. The Inspiration Café offers a positive environment, nutrition, and a chance to improve the lives of Chicagoans affected by Homelessness and Poverty.

Kensington’s employees enjoyed the experience. “…things just sort of flowed. I was able to have a lot of interaction with the staff, as well as the people we were serving. I enjoyed both. Time flew by and it was a lot of fun.” Says Raphael, one of Kensington’s managers.

Why volunteer at the Inspiration Café? “A smile and being genuine in your want to help can go a really long way with anyone.” Explained Sarah. “Maybe I get it from my mom, but I love to feed people, make sure they have all that they need, they want, that they’re having a reasonably good time. I don’t often get to experience that, so when I do it’s a treasured moment. Plus, as mentioned above, I really liked having conversations with people I wouldn’t normally get to chat with.”

Would Kensington volunteer at the Inspiration Café again in the future? “Absolutely seize the opportunity!” Says Raphael. “It was definitely worth it and I’d do it again in a heartbeat.”
