Board of Review Opens Group 4 Townships for Property Tax Appeals

Cook County Property Tax AppealThe Cook County Board of Review has opened the fourth group of townships for 2018 property tax appeals. If your property is located in one of the 4 townships listed below the Board’s deadline to appeal your 2018 assessed value is November 13th.

  • Leyden
  • Worth
  • Hyde Park
  • Lake View

Each year homeowners have an opportunity to appeal their property’s assessment at the Assessor’s office and at the Board of Review. You do not need to have filed an appeal at the Assessor’s office in order to file an appeal at the Board of Review. In addition, even if you appealed successfully at the Assessor’s office you still have an opportunity to file a second appeal for tax year 2018 at the Board of Review. Appealing at the Board may result in additional savings.

Assessment Notices Mailed to Worth Township

Worth2018 assessment notices were mailed today by the Cook County Assessor’s office to property owners in Worth Township, IL. If your home is in Worth Township you have approximately one month to appeal your assessed value at the Assessor’s office, up to the deadline of July 23rd.

Worth Township was reassessed in 2017 so a successful appeal in 2018 may result in two years of savings, until Worth is reassessed in 2020. The best way to ensure you never pay more than your fair share in property taxes is to review your assessment every year and appeal whenever you have a strong basis for an appeal argument, no matter where your township is at in the triennial reassessment cycle. Others also recommend this approach.

Board of Review Opens Group 5 Townships for Appeals

  • West Chicago
  • Worth

The Cook County Board of Review is an independent government agency, separate from the Assessor’s office, and has the authority to reduce property valuation assessments.

Worth Township Reassessment Notices Mailed

On June 23rd reassessment notices were mailed by the Cook County Assessor’s office to all properties in Worth Township. The 30 day window for appealing your assessed value is now open. The last day to file a 2017 appeal at the Assessor’s office is July 24th.Worth

Cook County townships are divided into three groups for reassessment purposes. Each group of townships is then reassessed triennially by the Assessor’s office. Worth Township is part of the south group which is being reassessed in 2017. The Assessor’s office has published the 2017 valuation statistics for Worth here.
